See which Meta catalog fields can stop an upload
Meta’s Catalog Fields page describes the product data for a Facebook Shop or Instagram Shopping channel. A note on that page names the attributes that may stop a product from uploading. The same tables mark other attributes Required and then say those do not stop the upload. This is a commerce catalog feed, not a marketplace seller-center CSV. Golanto does not submit it.
Which missing fields does Meta say can stop a product from uploading?
The page says all field names and certain supported values must be in US English. Required means critical for a strong experience on Meta. Recommended can improve that experience. Then the note says: if any of these attributes are missing or formatted incorrectly, products may not upload to your catalog: id, title, description, availability, condition, price, link, and image_link. You also need at least one of brand, gtin, or mpn. Other required attributes are critical, but missing them does not stop a product from uploading.
id is a unique content ID, max 100 characters. Use the item’s SKU if possible. Each content ID must appear only once. If there are multiple instances of the same ID, Meta ignores all instances. For dynamic ads, this ID must exactly match the content ID in the Meta Pixel. The page’s example is 12345. id is also required for a supplementary feed, and it must match the main feed. title is max 200 characters, and the page recommends a maximum of 65. Its example is Blue Cotton T-Shirt. description is max 9999 characters, plain text, not HTML, not all capitals, and without links. It should be different from the title. availability must be in US English. The supported values printed there are in stock and out of stock. Out-of-stock items display as “sold out” in the shop and do not display in ads. condition accepts new, refurbished, or used. price is a number, a space, and an ISO 4217 code. Use a period as the decimal point, not a comma, and do not include a currency symbol. The examples are 9.99 USD and 7.99 EUR. link starts with http:// or https://, on the business’s website domain, not a Facebook domain. image_link is JPEG or PNG, at least 500 x 500 pixels and up to 8 MB. A later image must use a different URL or the change will not be recognized.
Which Required labels do not, by that note, stop the upload?
In the every-product table, google_product_category is marked Required and says to provide either that field or fb_product_category. fb_product_category is marked Required with the same either-or sentence. brand is marked Required, max 100 characters. The table’s brand example is Jasper's Market. additional_image_link is marked Required, up to 50 image URLs, max 2000 characters. Those names are not in the upload note’s list. The note’s “other required attributes” sentence is the reason this page does not treat them as upload-blocking.
The same table marks gtin and mpn Recommended, while the upload note says you also need at least one of brand, gtin, or mpn. This page leaves that difference as the page wrote it. It does not promote gtin or mpn to Required, and it does not drop brand from the note. gtin’s example is 4011200296908. mpn’s example is JAS12345PER, with a stated max of 100 characters.
A later section, Attributes for products they apply to, says Required means required for every product the attribute applies to. item_group_id is marked Required there, max 100 characters. The same group ID goes on variants of one product. The example is Shirt_1. color, size, and age_group are also marked Required in that section. color is words, not a hex code. The size note says that for selling in Shops, size is required for specific categories, including clothing and shoes. age_group’s accepted values are adult, all ages, teen, kids, toddler, infant, and newborn. The table continues after age_group. This page does not reprint it. Onsite checkout can require more fields, and the page’s example is quantity_to_sell_on_fb. There is also a section titled Additional Required Fields for Selling in India. Neither list is reprinted here. The field list on this page is partial. Hotel and automotive catalogs can allow longer values for some fields, such as title. This page is about the product catalog.

- Keep a copy of the source file. Build the catalog feed in Commerce Manager, or from the file your business already hosts. Golanto does not open Commerce Manager.
- In Golanto, choose Meta catalog. Record Facebook or Instagram, the catalog, and the date you read Catalog Fields. The mapper still opens on Amazon until you change the platform.
- Give every row its own id. Do not repeat an id. The page says every instance of a repeated id is ignored. Variants share item_group_id and still use different id values.
- Fill the eight attributes in the upload note. Add brand, gtin, or mpn so at least one of those three is present. Write price with a period and a space before the currency code, as in the page’s 9.99 USD example. Use in stock or out of stock.
- Add google_product_category or fb_product_category when you can, and remember the page says a missing value there does not stop the upload. Leave a supplier column unmapped when Catalog Fields does not name it. Export the mapped file and submit it yourself.
Worked example
Two Meta rows reused one content id
id,title,price
MUG-350,Stoneware mug,18.00 USD
MUG-350,Speckled stoneware mug,18.00 USDid,title,price
MUG-350,Stoneware mug,18.00 USD
MUG-351,Speckled stoneware mug,18.00 USDThese are synthetic rows, not the page’s Blue Cotton T-Shirt or 12345. The Catalog Fields page says that if the same ID appears more than once, all instances are ignored. MUG-351 is a second product, not a variant. Variants would keep different id values and share item_group_id. The sketch leaves out description, availability, condition, link, and image_link, which are in the upload note.
What this check cannot establish
Golanto does not submit a catalog to Meta, Facebook, or Instagram, and it does not decide Shop or checkout eligibility. This page uses the English Catalog Fields document retrieved on 2 November 2026. The docs URL redirected to that documentation page. The upload note is quoted as a closed list. The every-product table, the variant section, India, onsite checkout, and category-specific fields continue beyond the attributes named here, so the field list is partial. gtin and mpn stay Recommended in the table even though the note asks for at least one of brand, gtin, or mpn. A mapped file is not an approved catalog item.

Common questions
Which Meta catalog fields can stop a product from uploading?
The Catalog Fields note says products may not upload if id, title, description, availability, condition, price, link, or image_link is missing or formatted incorrectly. It also says you need at least one of brand, gtin, or mpn. It says other required attributes do not stop a product from uploading.
Are Meta gtin and mpn marked Required?
In the every-product table they are marked Recommended. brand is marked Required there. The upload note separately says you need at least one of brand, gtin, or mpn. This page does not collapse those two sentences into one rule.
