Separate Volusion’s spreadsheet columns from the Products table CSV
Volusion’s help center describes two product files. The Product Importing Spreadsheet Guide names the columns in a sample spreadsheet, including Key and Product Name. The Import/Export articles describe a Products table CSV whose headers are the fields you check on export, including ProductCode. Those headers are different. Rename a column only when the article for the file you are holding uses that name.
Which columns does the Volusion spreadsheet guide name?
The spreadsheet guide lists Column Name, a description, a corresponding field name, and a page section. The column names are Key, Product Name, Price, Description, Category, Hidden, SEO Friendly Name, SEO Title, SEO Description, Advanced Description, Image URL, Images Alt Text, Variation1 Title, Variation1 Value, and the same Title and Value pair for Variation2, Variation3, Variation4, and Variation5, then Variant Sku, Variant Price, and Variant Hidden. Key is required and is the same for each variant of one product. SEO Friendly Name is required and unique. The guide’s example is a product URL ending in seo-friendly-name-value. Hidden is true or false. Category can hold more than one category, separated by a comma. The guide’s example is clothing, shirts. Image URL can hold more than one URL, separated by a comma. Each Variation Title and Variation Value is required if you use variants. The guide’s example on every pair is color and red. Variant Sku is required if you track inventory on variants.
The corresponding field names are not a second header. Product Name corresponds to Name, Price to Price, Category to Categories, SEO Friendly Name to Friendly Name, SEO Title to Title, SEO Description to Meta Description, Advanced Description to Advanced Description, each Variation Title to Variant Name, each Variation Value to Variant Values, Variant Sku to SKU, and Variant Hidden to an eye icon. Key, Hidden, and Image URL are marked N/A. The guide says the import steps are in an article titled Products App: Importing, and it does not print that article’s URL. That article did not load for this page. The steps below are the Import/Export steps, for the Products table file.

MUG-04,Travel mug,18.00,travel-mugWhich names belong on the Products table CSV?
All About Import/Export says only a CSV can be imported. Export can be CSV, TAB, PIPE, or XML. You export one table at a time, and the export screen lists that table’s columns with their data types. Virtual columns are marked with a double asterisk. They can be exported and should be removed before an import. The database-import article says to export Products, choose the columns you will edit, and save CSV. It says ProductCode is a TEXT column of up to 30 characters. It does not print the rest of the Products header. A new product imported without ProductCode, ProductPrice, and ProductWeight produces a warning on Settings, then Maintenance. That sentence is in the child-products article, in the paragraph about adding new products.
The child-products article also names OptionIDs and EnableOptions_InventoryControl when you are attaching options that already exist. Option ids are separated by commas, with no spaces. EnableOptions_InventoryControl gets a capital Y only on a product that has options. ProductCode is the first column in that file, a column with a header and no values is removed, and the last column is filled. Importing those options does not create child products. The article then says to open Settings, then Maintenance, then Reassign Inventory Control Grid, check Create All Inventory Control Grids, and click Perform Maintenance Now. Those are maintenance actions. They are not extra columns.
How do you import the Products table CSV?
- Decide which file you have. If the header includes Key and Product Name, you are in the spreadsheet guide. Its upload steps are in Products App: Importing, which this page could not retrieve. Do not run that file through the Products table steps, and do not rename Key to ProductCode.
- For the Products table, go to Inventory, then Import/Export. On Standard Export, choose Products. The database article calls that control the Columns menu. All About Import/Export and the child-products article call it Export From. Select the columns you will edit, include ProductCode, and export CSV. On a Mac, save CSV for Microsoft Windows.
- In Golanto, choose Volusion and record which of the two files you downloaded, plus the date. The mapper still opens on Amazon until you change the platform. Map onto the headers in that download. For a new Products-table row, the child-products article names ProductCode, ProductPrice, and ProductWeight as the minimum. ProductCode holds at most 30 characters.
- On Standard Import, choose Products, browse to the CSV, and choose what happens to existing rows. The database article’s three choices are: update without changing records already there, replace existing data with the CSV, or delete all records in the table and replace them. It says the third choice is for a table you mean to clear. All About Import/Export describes the same three ideas as add, replace, or clear the table. The child-products article tells you to select Upload new data and replace any existing data already in my database for the options file. Use the label on the screen you have open.
- Remove virtual columns marked **. Remove a column that has a header and no values. The database article says text that contains a comma goes in single quotations, and that double quotation marks should come out of the cells. After the import, All About Import/Export says to rebuild the search index at Settings, then Maintenance, with Rebuild next to Search Index. A file of hundreds of thousands of rows can time out. Split it.
Worked example
ProductCode and Product Name belong on different Volusion files
ProductCode,ProductName,ProductPrice
MUG-04,Travel mug,18.00These headings are a synthetic supplier sketch, and they mix the two Volusion files. The spreadsheet guide’s columns include Key and Product Name, with a space. The Products table articles name ProductCode, ProductPrice, and ProductWeight. ProductName is not the column either article prints. 18.00 is a synthetic price. The spreadsheet guide does not print a price format. The database article’s category-id example, 14,25,35,69,71,73 becoming 142535697173, is Excel removing commas. It is not a product code.
What this check cannot establish
Golanto does not log in to Volusion or export the Products table. This page uses four help articles retrieved on 2 November 2026. The spreadsheet guide names its columns and points to Products App: Importing without a URL. That article did not load, so this page has no upload steps for the spreadsheet. The Products table header is whatever you check on export. ProductCode, ProductPrice, ProductWeight, OptionIDs, and EnableOptions_InventoryControl are the names the loaded articles print. They are not a full header. The three import articles also use different words for the overwrite choices and for the export menu. Follow the labels on the screen. Virtual columns marked ** are export-only. Child products appear after Reassign Inventory Control Grid. They are not created by the options import alone.

Common questions
Is Volusion’s Key column the same field as ProductCode?
The articles that loaded do not say that. Key is the required identifier on the sample spreadsheet, and it stays the same for each variant of one product. ProductCode is the Products table column, TEXT, up to 30 characters, and the child-products article says it is the first column of that file. Keep each name on the file whose article prints it.
Where are the steps for Volusion’s sample spreadsheet?
The spreadsheet guide says to see Products App: Importing. It does not print a URL, and that article did not load for this page. The Inventory, then Import/Export steps on this page are for the Products table CSV. Use them on the spreadsheet only if the screen you have open is that Import/Export page and the header is the one you exported.
